Carey was a fashion model. She is 5'10" tall and was sought-after by the high-end American designers, such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and others. In 1979 the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists named her father Scientist of the Year. In the course of his work, Carey has been raised across the globe. When she was a student at the University of Colorado, Carey started modeling for a side. A representative of Ford Model Agency located in New York noticed her and asked for help. In 1980, she moved to France for a brief period of time, and lived in Paris and Bordeaux, before returning back to New York in order to explore her modeling career. Her work was showcased on Vogue as well as Glamour covers. She studied full-time in New York University, obtaining her degree in literature between modeling assignments. Her interest grew in acting and started studying with the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. In 1986, she made her debut in acting with a minor role on the show "Club Paradise" alongside Robin Williams. She spends her free time skiing, white-water rafting, windsurfing, and rock climbing.
